How to Help Small Retailers Adapt to New EU Regulations
At KEMO, we’ve faced many challenges over the years, but one recent story from a small retailer in Italy stands out. This customer is a small lighting retailer with just one store, and they’ve been operating in their local market for over twenty years. However, due to changes in EU standards, their once popular machine tool lights no longer met energy efficiency requirements, putting their business at risk.
The Challenge
The customer turned to KEMO for a solution. Their request was simple: they wanted to continue selling these lights without having to spend a fortune on reapplying for ERP certification.

Our Solution: Light Source Centralization
The KEMO team quickly devised an innovative solution: light source centralization. We recommended standardizing all their lights with a 12V input light source that complies with ERP standards. This approach not only eliminated the high costs of applying for ERP certification for each model but also avoided the expense of retooling.
Additionally, the KEMO team customized the internal components of the machine tool lights by replacing the original PCB boards and designing a series of stainless steel parts that perfectly fit the existing lamp structure. This modification allowed the customer to continue using their original lamp designs while reducing costs and increasing sales.

The Result
In the end, the customer only needed to purchase standard-compliant universal light sources, which were easy to install, allowing their business to continue without added costs. In fact, they managed to lower their expenses and boost sales.
This successful customization case not only solved the customer’s urgent needs and helped them meet the new regulatory requirements, but also enhanced their market competitiveness while ensuring business continuity.
